Finding the correct position in the eyepiece for the reticle is
usually quite simple. In most occulars a field stop is located
in the occulars focal plane.
To locate this field stop unscrew
the bottom retainer of the eyepiece. Remove the retaining
ring and existing reticle if applicable.
Carefully clean
the new reticle and insert it against the field stop. Be
sure to position the reticle so that the image is viewed
correctly through the eyepiece.
Install the retaining ring
against the reticle snugly. Before screwing the eyepiece
back together ensure that the reticle is free from dust
or debris.
The reticle can be focused in the normal manner
by turning the top of the eyepiece. Some eyepieces do not
require a retaining ring, and still others require cementing
the reticle in position. In any instance the general instructions
above apply.
Some
eyepieces are not equipped with field stops. In this case
you will need to contact the microscope manufacturer and
ask that they supply you with the proper insert in conjunction
with your particular microscope.
